WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator George LeMieux (R-FL) today spoke on the Senate floor regarding health care reform proposals and the potential impact on the national debt. LeMieux discussed the need to address the billions lost in waste, fraud, and abuse. Last week, Senator LeMieux introduced the Prevent Health Care Fraud Act of 2009 – a proposal aimed at reducing and eliminating fraud in the health care industry.
“In my state of Florida, specifically Southeast Florida, we are the health care fraud capital of the world. We need to do a better job spending the money of the people now, before we embark upon new programs to spend trillions more,” said Senator LeMieux. “Americans want and deserve more affordable health care. Forty million Americans don’t have health insurance, nearly four million of those in Florida. But the reckless spending of this Congress must stop or we are going to bankrupt the future of our children and our grandchildren.”
